The Waiting of

Raven  by Jay Caselberg
Raven
 by Jay Caselberg
Black winged night
A belly empty
Full of frustration
As he waits
Now hungry

Hard curves of clamshell
Revealed on wet earth
Noise unfamiliar within
A song now to calm it
He sings

This shell then creaks open
And out crawls a creature
Long haired and featherless
Two legs
This the first

Dark wing bores quickly
He thinks to return it
Instead he goes searching
There within chitin
A companion

Watch them together
Dark wing now interested
These are the people
Now his
To protect
